Another very important aspect that is paramount is ‘safety’, business owners have obligations for the safe operation and maintenance of their ‘unattended’ boilers.

Penalties may occur to the individual or business as per OHS regulations in your state and severe penalties (fines and jail) may be applied under the new manslaughter laws in various states in the event of a serious incident.

As an RTO we also offer the essential ‘unattended’ boiler training that keeps everyone safe. This training programme for ‘Unattended Boiler Operators’ provides an understanding and awareness of safe operating procedures as per AS2593.

Under AS2593-2004 Section 1.3.17 – Trained Person, it states that a trained person is defined as: “A person who has received adequate instruction and training provided by the owner in the operation of unattended boiler(s)”

This is a requirement to ensure you maintain compliant with relevant standards and regulations.

Unattended boiler operator training is imperative for industries that have boilers that can be left unattended for periods of time. While these boilers are generally very safe, without regular inspection and maintenance they may not operate correctly and can pose a significant health and safety risk.

In addition, there are legal obligations involved. For example, in most states of Australia, if the competent authorities inspect a worksite and discover an unattended boiler being operated without a suitably trained and competent boiler operator on site, penalties under the state acts may occur.

In the case of an incident – particularly where injury or death occurs – the penalty may well include prosecution, a substantial fine for individuals and the business coupled with imprisonment.

As both industry subject matter experts and an RTO, O’Brien Boiler Services offers essential ‘unattended’ boiler training that keeps everyone safe. This training programme for ‘Unattended Boiler Operators’ provides an understanding and awareness of safe operating procedures as per AS2593.
