As brewers who are single-mindedly focussed and passionate about brewing seriously good beer, we can relate to skateboarders’ passion for the spirit, creativity and exhilaration of their sport.
So, in June 2019, we’re turning ‘Go Skateboarding Day’, officially an annual, one-day global celebration of skateboarding, into a month-long festival, with our inaugural Burleigh Keg Jump the marquee event on 20th June at our Burleigh Brewing taphouse.
Celebrations kick off on Saturday June 1st with our monthly `Artist In Residence’ program featuring some of the late Rome Torti’s renowned skate photography, selected by some of the best skateboarders in the world.
Rome passed away in 2014 from brain cancer and all the proceeds from his prints on sale at the brewery will go towards supporting a family battling brain cancer. Rome’s photographs will be on display in the Burleigh Brewing taphouse throughout the month of June.
A `Live Your Passion’ video will follow on Friday June 7th highlighting the passion of local Pro Skater Dennis Durrant from Brisbane.
Durrant is one of the most respected and talented street skaters in Australia and we are thrilled to have him on board with our `Live Your Passion’ campaign, celebrating those like us who live their passion every day.
On Saturday 8th June, locals can head down to Lloyds Shop at 14 Hutchinson St in Burleigh Heads and enjoy a Burleigh Mid-Tide at the Kippy Skateboards brand launch party, showcasing and recognising girls in skateboarding.
To keep the festivities going, Burleigh Brewing has continued our collaboration with local artist Deadwood to release a newly designed `Deadwood Project’ tap handle, perfect for beer pouring and created from recycled skateboard decks. The new-look tap handles will be released at the Burleigh Brewing Taphouse mid-June.
And then on 20th June, the eve of Go Skateboarding Day, things get REALLY exciting! Our new Burleigh Keg Jump competition – a skate comp happening for the first time in a brewery – will kick off at 6pm at our Burleigh Brewing taphouse. 20+ pro skateboarders will battle it out to win a share of the $5000 cash and beer prize pool on offer.
Against the backdrop that is our stunning brewery, skaters will attempt their longest ollie while clearing as many kegs as possible and also battle it out in a best trick comp. The doors open at 6pm for spectators to come and watch the action. With Cameron Sparks as MC and of course Burleigh Brewing world class craft beers available on tap and delicious food to match, it’s a night not to be missed. Entry is free and strictly 18+.
Trent Fahey, Editor of Slam Magazine, and Sean Holland, Editor of The Skateboarders Journal, will judge the best tricks on the night. If you thought the Burleigh Keg Jump event couldn’t get any better, on the invitation-only skater line-up Burleigh Brewing has secured pro skateboarders Andrew Brophy, Jesse Noonan, Dennis Durrant and plenty more, all eager to win Burleigh beer for a year! You won’t want to miss this event.
To end a month of skateboard love, on Thursday 27th June, Burleigh Outdoor Cinema will showcase on our massive outdoor screen in the brewery car-park, the new film, `Skate Kitchen’, featuring a New York City skate girl gang entrenched in the street skate scene.
