Prancing Pony Brewery is excited to announce the launch of the inaugural Adelaide Hills Oktoberfest at the Newenham in the Adelaide Hills on Saturday October 27, 2018.
This festival will deliver a traditional and authentic German cultural Oktoberfest; and what better place to do it than the Adelaide Hills.
It is ideally suited to hold a festival to celebrate all things German; after all, it is the home of South Australian German settlement in 1845. The German settlers chose these rolling green hills to live, work and play – which is still evident today.
The inaugural festival will be a family friendly affair, with music, traditional dancing, beer and of course plenty of German-style food.
Prancing Pony Brewery will be brewing two traditional German-style beers, which will be served in one-litre Steins.
“We always wanted to create a festival that has a real authentic feel. In Germany, the original Munich Octoberfest attracts over seven million visitors each year and it is definitely something that people remember for the rest of their lives”, Festival Director Corinna Steeb said.
“Frank (Samson owner and head brewer) and I grew up in Germany and the Oktoberfest was definitely an event that we looked forward attending each year”.
So, it seems only fitting to have this festival, after all it is a beerfest. We have partnered with the German dancers, brass bands and of course producers of fine German-style breads, small goods other delicious food.
We look forward to creating a family friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy the day’s onstage entertainment and food and relax on the grass. As the afternoon progresses, so will our festival, with live music and German Schuplattler (German Slap dancing), more food and of course more Octoberfest beer.
For the beer enthusiasts (who we love so much), Prancing Pony Brewery will teach you everything you have ever wanted to know about traditional German brewing in a Beer Masterclass.
Guests will enjoy a range of games to participate in during the day, including Pretzel eating, Hammer Throwing and Potato Sack Racing.
There will be, however, two main competitions that guests can participate in:
For the Herren (Gentlemen): Frank Samson Owner and Head Brewer is known for his moustache and is challenging Adelaide gentlemen to a BEST MOUSTACHE COMPETITION. Criteria for the best moustache will be the longest and best styled. Winner of this competition will win a $250 voucher for the brewery and a brew day with Frank.
For the Damen (Ladies): Melissa Measham is known for her Stein Holding and is challenging Adelaide ladies to the BEST STEIN HOLDING COMPETITION. You will be challenged to hold a stein for as long as possible. Winner of this competition will win a $250 voucher for the brewery and a brew day with Prancing Pony’s Brewer Eden Pink.
Terms & Conditions for both competitions will be released on our website shortly. All participants are invited to register their interest here and here.
