Sierra Nevada on its way

January 10, 2011 by Editor

Sierra Nevada, the beer that was the inadvertent cause of last year’s ‘grey beers imbroglio‘, is soon to be available in Australia as a legitimate import.

WA based beer importer, Phoenix Beers, has announced it will be getting its first shipment of Sierra Nevada by the end of March. As is required by the brewery, the beer will be shipped to Australia using refrigerated transport. Phoenix will also be cold storing the beer prior to distribution within Australia.

With it’s pivotal place in contemporary beer culture, Sierra Nevada is in great demand in Australia and, as noted in our earlier articles, there is a thriving grey market for the beer. Sierra Nevada legitimately directly imported into the country will be the freshest available and will be able to be identified by the labelling on the bottle noting Phoenix as the importer. Parallel versions will have labels noting other importers (and in some cases will have best before dates scratched off).

Phoenix will be importing the core range of beers, including Pale Ale, Torpedo IPA, Stout and Porter and hope to have specialties and seasonals such as Bigfoot, Northern and Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ales and others. Sierra Nevada also do a wide range of specialty kegs that Phoenix and its Australian partners hope to stock in the long run. This may be pending a suitable one-way keg option.

Upon arrival, Sierra Nevada will be available through the WA-based online beer store International Beer Shop and better bottleshops. Six-packs of Pale Ale will retail for between $23 – $25.
