The Bavarian Bier Cafes don’t seem to draw much attention from the craft beer set and sometimes I don’t understand why. I’ve been spending a bit of time at the Brisbane cafe recently and it is a great place to sit savour good German beer. They don’t serve double-hopped anything and the beers are straight up-and-down, easy-drinking beers (not easy drinking in the Corona mould, easy drinking in the sense that you can just enjoy them without over analysing the bejesus out of them). Most importantly, they are amongst the freshest tasting imports I have tried and when you ask the staff a question about the beer, you are likely to get an informed answer about the style and flavour profile. That alone sets the venues apart from 95 per cent of places serving beer in Australia. For those into beer and food, Paulaner Salvator and apple strudel is simply a perfect match.
They may be beer geek heaven, but they’re not a bad place to while away the hours till you get there. [MK]
Saturday 17th September 2011 saw the launch of the Bavarian Bier Café’s Oktoberfest in a 6 week -long celebration of one of the worlds most loved festivals.
With 5 exclusive Oktoberfest biers available during this time, Brisbane locals and visitors alike will be able to experience some of Germany’s finest pure biers. The best consumer law ever made, the 1516 legislation declares that all German beer can only contain four ingredients; hops, malt, yeast and water. This is the reason why the bier at the Bavarian Bier Café, is so pure.
Each Sunday afternoon, listen to the cool sounds of our own Bavarian band as they play thigh- slapping music while you enjoy Bavarian bites and Pure Biers whilst soaking up the atmosphere of the Brisbane River, iconic Story Bridge and sunshine.
Bier Professor Dom Dighton will be pouring biers and educating your palates through a mini bier akademie on Thursday 27 October from 6pm – 6.30pm at the main bar. Cost is $19.50 for 5 flight biers.
Throughout Oktoberfest, we will reveal the age-old chemistry between bier and food with dedicated food and bier matched menus. Try beef cheeks matched to the Hofbrau Dunkel followed by home-baked apple strudel, perfectly paired with the Paulaner Salvator Doppel Bock.
