What is it?
A fun, handicap 10km race through Melbourne that finishes at The Local Taphouse in St Kilda for some drinks.
The idea is that all participants start together at the same spot; they all have to go past a half way check point; and they all finish at the same spot (The Local). How they get from the start to the check point and from the check point to the finish is completely up to each contestant, so planning the route is important.
Date & Time
Wednesday 20th November, 2013, starting 7:30pm sharp
The starting point will be on the stairs of parliament house on Spring Street, Melbourne city, opposite where Bourke Street adjoins it. The race will kick off at 7:30pm sharp so participants are advised to get there early enough to register with their name and $20 entry fee.
Participants must pass through the check point, which will be on Beaconsfield Parade, where Pickles Street adjoins it on the beach side of the road. At the checkpoint and ensure they shout their name to the person manning the check point to ensure they are marked off as having passed the check point. Any participant whose name is not marked off will not have run a legitimate race.
The finish is the double entry doors to The Local Taphouse at 184 Carlisle Street, St Kilda East.
Entry info and fee
Entry into this is at each participant’s own risk and by entering they take total responsibility for their own safety. Entry is $20 payable i cash at the starting line. The entry fee will usually be pooled together with 50% going to the race winner and 50% going on a bar tab for all to enjoy. Participant’s are asked to let the race organisers know by 4pm on Wednesday before the race.
The first race is a qualifier race to enter your official time. There will only be a time winner for the first qualifying race but no prize money will be won. Once your official time has been recorded, you are eligible to win future races. The handicap will work by taking your qualifying time away from 70 mins and adding it to the time of your subsequent race. Each race you participate in will go toward your handicap but your handicap can only improve, not get worse. For example, if you run 50mins in your qualifier, your handicap will be 20mins (70 – 50). If you then run 48 mins in your eligible race, your time will be recorded as 48 mins + 20 min handicap = 68 mins. Your new handicap after this race will be 22 mins.
The official bar tab will not commence until after the cut off time of 70 mins or after the last participant has arrived (whichever happens first).
Future races will be organised on a regular basis. Anyone who has previously qualified in a race will be eligible to win the handicap race. The race winner will win 50% of the entry fees collected.
