Bodriggy Brewing is set to start production in May at its own facility in Abbotsford, Victoria, after purchasing the property two years ago.

Bodriggy’s brewery is located on a 1500 square metre industrial site across the road from Dr Morse, the craft beer bar co-owned by Bodriggy founder Peter Walsh and his partners.

The company began gypsy brewing two years ago at facilities including Fury and Sons, Wolf of the Willows and Hawkers.

It has recently put this on hold to focus on the construction of the brewery, Walsh told Brews News.

“The project is in two stages and the first stage is to get the brewery up and running, which we’re close to. As soon as that’s done we’ll start on the front area of the venue,” he said.

Walsh is planning to have the venue’s taproom open to the public before the year is out. It will have capacity for 450 people, live music, a beer garden and a retail outlet selling Bodriggy beers.

Tristan Barlow, former head brewer at La Sirene and Kooinda, has been head brewer at Bodriggy for over a year and will be manning its recently installed 36hl brewhouse and Codi Canning system.

“Our range right now is American-inspired, including the Highbinder Pale Ale and Chuckaboo White IPA. We’ll continue to have that hop heavy, American style with future beers,” said Walsh.

The name itself is a historical reference to the property, an old stonemasonry with the sign ‘Bodriggy Villa’ still visible on the roof of the building.

The Bodriggy Man featured on the cans and bottles is the mascot for the brewery, which Walsh says is, “a genuine interpretation of the way we see Abbotsford and the rock and roll style that will influence our beers”.

Brewery openings are presented bySpark Breweries and Distilleries, the finest in-venue and production brewing systems available, with local design and support.
