Capital Brewing Co has today launched the Trees for Tomorrow project aiming to regreen areas of the Snowy Monaro region.

Partnering with Jindabyne based environmental charity Keep It Cool, Capital aims to plant 5000 trees in the Snowy Monaro region to draw down carbon and create new habitats for wildlife.

“We love the Australian winter landscape on our doorstep but there is no doubt it has seen the effects of climate change” said Capital’s Managing Director Laurence Kain “so we thought we’d use beer as a force for good and do our bit to enhance and preserve it.”

Capital will plant one tree for every case of beer sold throughout the Snowy Mountains region this winter, with the first planting day scheduled at the end of the ski season on 18 September in Home Valley, near Cooma. Capital will also plant trees for beers bought over any bar throughout the ski fields, Jindabyne and Cooma over winter.

Keep It Cool’s Founder Lucas Wilkinson said “the planting will include trees and understory species native to the region, including Eucalyptus Paciflora (Snow Gum) and E. Viminalis (Ribbon Gum) which many locals and visitors to the region will be aware has been subject to significant dieback over recent decades”.

Some of the other species your beer money will be put towards include E. Bridgesiana (Apple Box), E. Melliodora (Yellow Box), and Acacia Rubida (Red Stem Wattle).

This project forms part of Capital’s goal to achieve B Corp status, a global certification for companies dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities.
