Cryer Malt, an industry-leading supplier of brewing and distilling ingredients throughout Australia and New Zealand for 30 years, is pleased to announce stage two of their new distribution centre in the greater Melbourne area: a semi-automatic bagging line.

This distribution centre and technology is one of a kind in Australia and is set to be fully operational June 2022.

Cryer Malt’s General Manager, David Cryer said, “We’re excited to be leading the way in our industry with this new bagging line. With the palletising robot and other automated functionalities, we’ll be able to process six to ten bags per minute. This is just one example of our business continuously looking for ways to incorporate technology to improve the experience for our customers and employees. With this automation, we’ll be able to fill orders faster, with higher accuracy and better quality. It’s a great way to celebrate 30 years in business.”

The bagging facility is made up of 3 x 40 tonne custom built silos, a cleaning system, a semi-automatic bagging machine and a palatising robot. This means less manual handling for employees, reducing the physical strain of building pallets, improving supply chain between Barrett Burston and Cryer Malt, and creating better presentation of bagged product. With this
new system, Cryer Malt plans to bring all Barrett Burston bagging operations for 25kg and bulk bags in house.

This facility improvement allows Cryer Malt and its sister processing brand, Barrett Burston Malting, to strengthen both their customer service and promise of supplying brewers and distillers throughout the Asia Pacific with high-quality ingredients.

Cryer Malt’s Sales and Marketing Manager Steph Howard said, “The completion of stage two allows us to strengthen our distribution network for our domestic and export customers, while
improving our service, quality and processes.”
