New Beer Releases: June

The latest beer and beverage releases from Australian and New Zealand breweries for June 2020.


June 26th


Girl Kawa | Pink Boots Society (New Zealand)

New Zealand’s Pink Boots Society has teamed up with Fortune Favours to brew a special International Women’s Day beer.

Girl Kawa (5.5% abv) is a Kawakawa Saison, inspired by this year’s International Women’s Day theme ‘Creating an Equal and Enabled World’ (hence the decision to use Kawakawa – an equal parts word).

The saison features Yakima Chief Hops’ 2020 Pink Boots Hop Blend supplied by Cryer Malt and was released in New Zealand on Sunday June 21st.


Sunly Seltzer | Stone & Wood

Fermentum, the group behind Stone & Wood, has launched its own seltzer called Sunly under its new brand Sunrise Drinks Co.

Following the success of hard seltzers in the United States, the 4.0% abv Sunly Seltzer comes in three flavours, Davidson plum and berry, ginger and lemon, and blood orange and grapefruit.

Sunly will be available at bottle shops nation-wide as well as in Stone & Wood’s Byron Bay tasting room and its Brisbane venue.


Common Ground | White Bay Beer Co.

Sydney’s White Bay Beer Co. has teamed up with neighbours Little Marionette Coffee Roasters to brew its new Common Ground Baltic Porter (6.3% abv).

Cold fermented and conditioned with Ethiopian coffee, this very limited release is being canned and kegged this Friday, June 26th.


Black Diamond and Stubborn Russian Imperial Stout | Bright Brewery

In celebration of the beginning of ski season, Victoria’s Bright Brewery has released its annual winter dark ale, Black Diamond – named for the most challenging ski run of the brewery’s local mountains.

The 6.0% abv black IPA is in cans for the first time ever and is available at the Bright Brewery and selected stockists around Victoria and ACT.

 

Bright has also released a Stubborn Russian Imperial Stout, a hefty 12% abv beer inspired by those brewed for the Russian Imperial Court.

A limited quality of the stout is available for online pre-sale and it will be available at Bright Brewery and selected stockists in early July.

Red Moon | Stomping Ground Brewing Co.

Melbourne’s Stomping Ground Brewing Co. is releasing a new limited edition red IPA with flavours of toffee-like malt and tropical fruit hops.

Red Moon (6.0% abv) is available at your local bottleshop, the Stomping Ground Beer Hall and on the online store.


Chirpy | Two Birds Brewing

Following its first release back in October, Two Birds Brewing has released the second version of its brewed alcoholic soda, Chirpy.

Inspired by hard seltzers, the new 5.4% abv watermelon Chirpy is available at The Two Birds’ Nest in Victoria, Carlisle Castle Hotel, Bitter Phew, and Bankstown Sports in New South Wales, and Tippler’s Tap at South Bank and Which Craft Beer in Queensland.


Double Juicy Hazy DIPA | Bad Shepherd Brewing Co.

On Wednesday, Bad Shepherd Brewing Co. launched the latest brew in its IPA Series.

The new Double Juicy Hazy DIPA (8.0% abv) is brewed with six hop varieties including the new Samba and Trident hops, giving it citrus and mango flavours.

Double Juicy is available for purchase via Bad Shepherd’s online store.


Intergalactic Lovechild | Deeds Brewing

Victoria’s Deed’s Brewing has released a new limited edition sour hazy DIPA made with Citra and Simcoe Cryo hops.

According to head brewer Justin, the 8.0% abv Intergalactic Lovechild came about following discussion of how to brew a sour hazy double IPA while avoiding the clash between hops and lactic acid.

While it has sold out pre orders, Intergalactic Lovechild will be available at craft beer bottleshops nationally.


Lupalin Daze II | Dainton Beer

Dainton Beer has followed up its March Lupalin Daze Double Hazy IPA with a Double NEIPA.

Lupalin Daze II is brewed with Citra and Hallertau Blanc hops, resulting in an 8.0% abv beer due to hit shelves late next week.


Cow Tipper | Catchment Brewing Co.

Catchment Brewing Co. has released a 5.6% abv Milk Stout with flavours of chocolate, coffee and vanilla.

Cow Tipper is available online now via Catchment’s online store.


June 19th


You’re On Mute, Oi!, Seismic Wave and Hearing Colours | Fixation Brewing Company

Victoria’s Fixation Brewing Company has released four new beers as part of its Incubator series.The new releases feature the following:

  • You’re On Mute, a 7.8% abv West Coast Double IPA, made with Simcoe and Amarillo hops.
  • Oi!, a fruity 6.7% abv Hazy IPA, made with all Victorian Galaxy and Vic Secret hops.
  • Seismic Wave, a 5.8% abv Black IPA, fermented with New England Yeast and TDH US West Coast hops.
  • The last of the four new beers, Hearing Colours, is a tart, fruited 5.2% Yuzu, Raspberry, Passionfruit IPA. As this particular beer contains real fruit puree, it will only be available locally.

The other three new beers are available at the incubator Hop Stop until sold out. They can also be purchased via Fixation’s online store or by local delivery.


Infinite 8 | Jetty Road Brewery

Jetty Road Brewery has announced its new limited release, an 8.8% abv recipe brewed with eight American hops and 800 kilogrammes of malt.

Infinite 8 features Amarillo, El Dorado, Warrior, Centennial and Strata hops, and Pale, Vienna, Munich malts, amongst others.

The IIPA is being launched on 19th June and a list of stockists can be found here.


B2 Bomber | Bridge Road Brewers

For this year’s 10th edition of its anniversary ale, Bridge Road Brewers has recreated B2’s Imperial Belgian Black IPA and added a special coffee blend.

The B2 Bomber is made with ten specialty malts, five new-world hops, two Belgian yeast strains and 50kg of coffee to create a 10% abv beer.

Bridge Road has also put together 250 special B2 deluxe packs. The 15th birthday beer and its deluxe pack will be released on July 10th but is currently available for preorder from the Bridge Road website.


Upside Down | Stomping Ground Brewing Co.

Melbourne’s Stomping Ground Brewing Co. has followed up its Resinator IPA with a new English-style Brown Ale.

Upside Down (5.2% abv), named after the Yarra River’s tendency to appear ‘upside down’, is made with East Kent Goldings hops giving it flavours of hazelnut, caramel and toast.

The limited edition ale is available in independent bottleshops around Melbourne, at Stomping Ground’s pop-up bottleshop or its online store.


ELLA IPA | Sea Legs Brewing Co.

Sea Legs Brewing Co. has released its new Ella IPA, named after the Ella hops with which it is made.

The 6.5% abv West Coast-style IPA is part of Sea Legs’ limited edition range and can be purchased at its Brisbane brewery or online.


Ember’s Red IPA and Ogden Nash’s Pash Rash | Moon Dog Craft Brewery

Moon Dog Craft Brewery has added a sixth beer to its “doggo IPA family”, naming it after Sales Director Mark Waghorne’s dog Ember.

Ember’s Red IPA (7% abv) is made with Chinook, Amarillo and Simcoe hops.

 

 

Moon Dog is also re-releasing its all-time most requested beer, Ogden Nash’s Pash Rash.

The 8.2% abv raspberry candy imperial stout is being released in new 440ml cans and won’t be around for long.

The new beers will be available in Victoria from 16th June, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia from 19th June and Western Australia from 10th July and can be purchased via the Moon Dog online store.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, Moon Dog has had it push back the release of its Ember’s Red IPA and Ogden Nash’s Pash Rash. We will update New Beers again once the new release date is announced.


Brambleberry | Ballistic Beer

Brisbane’s Ballistic Beer has released another addition to its Twang sour series, the Brambleberry.

At 4.6% abv, Brambleberry is available now from Ballistic venues, stockists and via the Ballistic online store.


Big ‘Sner and Moonbeam Kiwi Ginger Sour | Bodriggy Brewing Co.

Two new releases this week from Victoria’s Bodriggy Brewing Co., beginning with the 8% abv Big ‘Sner New Zealand imperial pilsner.

Made with Wai-iti and Hort-9909 hops, Big ‘Sner is one of Bodriggy’s most hopped beers to date.

 

The second beer of the Twin Kiwi Limited Release is the 6% abv Moonbeam Kiwi Ginger Sour.

Both new beers are now available online and in store.


First Tracks Imperial Stout | Capital Brewing Co.

Canberra’s Capital Brewing Co. is releasing a 10.5% abv and 50 IBUs Imperial Stout in collaboration with its neighbours, ONA Coffee.

The limited special release First Tracks Imperial Stout takes Capital’s 2016 First Tracks Stout and doubles it.

This seasonal release will be available from Wednesday 17th June, East Coast and online only. A full list of stockists can be found on the Capital website.


Westerlies | Newstead Brewing Co.

Newstead Brewing Co. has released the last iteration of its Westerlies Winter Lager (6% abv).

Westerlies is now available at both Newstead brewpubs in kegs only.


Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout and Super Evil Archies | Mismatch Brewing Company

Mismatch Brewing Company has continued its very limited releases with a whopping 12.75% abv Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout.

 

 

Mismatch have also released another new beer as the last of its Evil Archies, doubling the dry hop with Simcoe, Cascade and Centennial hops, naming it the Super Evil Archies.

Both releases will be launched on June 22nd but are now available for presale on the Mismatch website.


June 12th


Mountain Pass and NEO IIPA | Balter Brewing Company

Queensland’sBalter Brewing Companyhas released two new beers this week.

Its first new release, Mountain Pass, comes in at 6.5% abv and 65 IBUs.

The Black IPA features Simcoe, Azzaca and HBC 692 hops to give it aromas of fresh pine and spruce forest, inspired by Washington’s Snoqualmie Pass highway on the way to theYakima Chiefhop farms, Balter said.

Balter’s second release is a 9.0% abv Neomexicanus Imperial IPA at 75 IBUs.

Both beers are limited releases available fromBalter HQfor takeaway growler refills and longnecks.


Someday Sours | Brick Lane Brewing Co.

Victoria’sBrick Lane Brewing Co.has released two new sours as part of its Someday Sours series.

The series has debuted with 4.2% abv blood orange and 4.2% abv watermelon and raspberry sours.

To celebrate the new beers, Brick Lane has also put out a limited release Try Someday Today pack featuring both sours, available from thewebsite.


Red Carpet | Nail Brewing

Western Australian brewery,Nail Brewing, has evolved its Red Ale to create the new Red Carpet imperial red ale.

Featuring Citra hops the beer comes in at 8.4% abv and 50 IBUs. A full list of stockists can be foundhere.


Higher Now | White Bay Beer Co.

Sydney’sWhite Bay Beer Co.is releasing its new Higher Now Double Dry Hopped Pale Ale.

The 5.5% abv DDH pale ale is loaded with Galaxy, Azacca and Sultana hops and will be available for purchase soon.


Witching Hour | Aether Brewing

Aether Brewingis bringing back its Berliner Weisse-style Witching Hour.

The 3.9% blackberry sour is made with Motueka hops.

It is availableonline, in the Aether taproom and is making its way into retailers sometime this week.


Out of the Woods | Holgate Brewhouse

As lockdown restrictions ease, Victoria’s Holgate Brewhouse has put out a limited release, 5.6% abv Out of the Woods pale ale.

The beer is exclusive to theHolgate online storeand taproom bottle shop.


Descent 20 | BentSpoke Brewing Co.

BentSpoke Brewing Co.has released a 10% abv Russian Imperial Stout in honour of the brewery’s sixth birthday.

After having aged in bourbon barrels for 12 months, Descent 20 is now available from the BentSpoke brewpub or theonline store.


Banana Split Stout | Bright Brewery

Following the success of its Affogato Stout, Victoria’sBright Breweryhas followed up with another dessert beer.

The 5.8% abv Banana Split Stout is made with cacao nibs, lactose, vanilla and ripe banana.

While it has currently sold out its online pre-sale, the beer is available onsite at Bright Brewery and will soon be available in bars and bottle shops across Victoria and New South Wales.


Wet Hop Ale | 4 Pines Brewing Company

For this year’s wet-hopped IPA,4 Pineshas used Galaxy hop cones to create a 7.5% abv, 60 IBUs ale.

The limited release batch is currently on tap at certain 4 Pines venues listedhere.


Pecan Milk Coffee Stout | New England Brewing Company

New England Brewing Company has released a new coffee stout made with coffee beans, pecans and Target and Willamette hops.

The beer has no added lactose, but is still on the sweeter side with 30 IBUs and a 6.2% abv.

It is available in bottle shops,onlineand at the brewery while the first batch lasts.


Peanut Butter and Jam Barrel-Aged Porter | Bad Shepherd Brewing Co.

Victoria’sBad Shepherd Brewing Co.has taken its Peanut Butter Porter and added raspberries to create the new Peanut Butter and Jam Barrel-Aged Porter which comes in at 7% abv.

To launch the stout, Bad Shepherd is hosting a drive-thru PB&J pop-up this Saturday 13th June from 11:30am to 2:30pm.

The socially-distanced “stay-in-your-car” event will include live music, hot jam donuts and 150 limited release mixed four packs. The location of the event will be released on the day viaBad Shepherd’s Facebook page.


Pizza Beer and Traditional Stout | Mismatch Brewing Company

As part of the ‘war on waste’ movement, South AustralianMismatch Brewing Companyhas taken leftover pizza dough and Noble hops to create a 5.0% abv Italian inspired lager.

Pizza Beer, the first of three new releases from Mismatch, is available for pre-release purchase on theMismatch online store.

 

The second of these new release beers is the Traditional Stout (6.5% abv) and is also available for pre-release purchase.

Both beers, along with the as yet unannounced third beer, will be shipped on 22nd June.


BNEIPA | Collaboration

Archer Brewing has organised a collaborative beer with breweries such asSea Legs,Revel,Newstead,Helios,Ballistic,All Inn,Catchmentand Aether, as well asCryer Maltamongst others.

The BNEIPA, referencing both the Brisbane Airport code and acting as an abbreviation of Bright New England IPA, will be canned on 17th June.

Russian Imperial Stout MMXX and Hazy Mixed Case V2 | Modus Operandi

Sydney’s Modus Operandi Brewing Co. has brewed a limited release beer in honour of the Queen’s birthday long weekend in New South Wales.

The Russian Imperial Stout MMXX is an 8.5% abv beer featuring seven different malts, including Ale, Aurora, Redback. Modus has also shared the recipe on its blog for home brewers to try.

 

It’s available now on the Modus online store.

Following the success of the Hazy Mixed Case, Modus has also released a Hazy Mixed Case V2 featuring its Hazy 02, Hazy 03 and Hazy 04.

The case is in very limited supply and available via the online store only.


Redliner IIRA and Woody Barrelson | Otherside Brewing Co.

Western Australia’s Otherside Brewing Co. has reimagined its 2019 Headliner IIPA with a Red IPA malt bill to create the new 8.5% abv Redliner IIRA.

Released alongside it is the Woody Barrelson Imperial American brown ale. It’s oaked with French oak staves, coming in at 7.6% abv.

Both beers are will be available for purchase from Otherside’s online store from June 8th.


Wood Fired Porter | Stone & Wood

Brewed with all-Australian malts including a Red Gum-smoked malt, Stone & Wood has released its 2020 Stone Beer, a wood-fired porter, in preparation for winter.

It is a limited release with 6.6% abv, currently available online for pre-order.


Resonator IPA | Stomping Ground Brewing Co.

Melbourne’s Stomping Ground Brewing Co. has announced a staggered release over the next few weeks of new limited edition brews, starting with the Resinator IPA.

Brewed with experimental hops, this 6.1% abv beer is available from its online store, local bottle shops or at Stomping Ground’s Gipps Street pop-up.


Creatures of Habit IPA | White Bay Beer

Sydney’s White Bay Beer has canned its new IPA, Creatures of Habit.

The 6.6% abv brew is the latest IPA, which will be different from the rest of White Bay’s core range in that once it is sold out, the team will be releasing a different IPA.

Limited stock online for home delivery or at the brewery.


Major Mac Spiced Fig and Coconut Milk Stout | Moon Dog Craft Brewery

Teaming up with Sydney’s Yulli’s Brews, Melbourne’s Moon Dog Craft Brewery has launched Major Mac, a spiced fig and milk stout.

Named for Mac, the most beloved pet of Davey Bill at Yulli’s, the 5% abv beer has added coconut milk and Crystal and Chocolate malts.


Mango Madness and Zoooom | Sauce Brewing Co.

New South Wales’ Sauce Brewing Co. have released two new beers this week.

The first, Mango Madness, came as the result of blending some of its leftover Trubble & Squeak with lactose and vanilla, the result being a 7.0% abv mango milkshake IPA.

Its second release is the isolation-inspired Zoooom. This hefty 9.0% abv chocolate pecan mudcake stout is part of Sauce’s collaboration with Bucket Boys.


Fuzzy Dance Explosion | Bodriggy Brewing Co.

As we enter Winter, Bodriggy Brewing Co. have developed a hazy tropical sour to remind customers of summer.

4% abv Fuzzy Dance Explosion features notes of pineapple juice, mango and lime thanks to its use of Galaxy and Samba hops.

It is available for purchase from Bodriggy’s online store.


Blacksmith IPA and Innovation Series | Akasha Brewing Company

Akasha Brewing Company have released a West Coast-style black IPA with an all-American hop bill.

Coming in at 7.2% abv, Blacksmith is available online and in NSW, VIC, QLD and ACT bottle shops.

Akasha has also announced its new Innovation Series, as a way for its brewers to experiment with extremely small batch beers.

The series’ first beer release is the 4.2% abv Blood Orange Gose; “kettle soured with Lactobacillus and brewed with sea salt and coriander” and added blood orange pulp.

The Innovation Series will only be available in cans, on tap at the brewery in Five Dock or in very small quantities online.

Originally brewed in collaboration with the Royal Albert Hotel, Akasha have also re-released its Queen of the Damned Red IPA (6.2% abv) for Victoria and Queensland.

The beer is available for purchase from Victorian and Queensland bottleshops.


Galaxy and Vanilla Porter | Deeds Brewing

Another double release this week, this time from Deeds Brewing in Victoria.

Its first release is a limited edition Hazy DIPA made with Galaxy hops, which lend the brew its name.

Galaxy is an 8.5% abv and part of the brewery’s Don’t Know About That series.

 

The second release is a 6.2% abv seasonal Midwinter Vanilla Porter made with Warrior hops.

Both beers will be available from June 9 but are currently on pre-sale on the Deeds online store.


Horses Head and Sunshine XPA | Grifter Brewing Company

5.5% abv Horses Head is a new one in cans for Sydney’s The Grifter Brewing Company.

It’s a red ale brewed with speciality grains, and it hasalso introduced its XPA to cans for the first time after refining its recipe since first brewing Southern Lord in late 2014.

 

The 4% abv Sunshine XPA is a hop-forward crisp ale.

Both are available direct from Grifter’s Marrickville tasting bar, local Sydney bottle shops and online.


Newy | Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co.

WA’s Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co has launched Newy, ‘brother’ to Sherby.

The beer is brewed using Pale Malt and Cararoma and is available at select bottle shops and stocked at both of Cheeky Monkey’s venues.
