Brewlab Qld seeks participants for industry workshops

Queensland Brewlab is seeking industry participants to take part in its upcoming beer flavour taint workshop, and also for potential hosts to take its workshop on the road.

The first event on 29th September will be held on-site at Coopers Plains in Brisbane, and is a free workshop designed for new and recent entrants to the craft industry.

The workshop will consist of two parts and this year the Brewlab team has secured the services of brewing industry consultant Anthony Clem to lead the panel and discussion. Anthony has a wealth of real world experience and will offer some real world context to the discussion about flavour faults and how they can come about.

The first part of the workshop is an introduction to sensory skills conducted by scientists from the Consumer and Sensory Science group of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries which will go through the fundamentals of sensory science from first principles.

The presentation is designed to be an interactive session, providing some innovative practical experiences.

The second part is a familiarisation workshop looking at 10 of the most common flavour taints in beer, and a discussion on exactly how those taints can develop in the product through the production and packaging process.

The team at Brewlab would also like to take this show on the road to regional Queensland locations, including the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

The team is seeking expressions of interest from both industry participants seeking attendance to the workshop, but also brewery/venue operators with space enough to conduct these workshops in the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast areas.

The initial workshop is limited to 12 participants so contact the team directly, and EOI’s can be sent directly to the Brewlab team at brewlab@daf.qld.gov.au.
