Geelong’s Great Australian Beer Festival (GABF) celebrates its 7th anniversary with a number of exciting changes when it returns to the Geelong Racecourse on February 16.
Inspired by the fast-growing craft brewing industry, GABF begun in 2013 as a celebration of mostly local and state-wide breweries. Today the festival attracts over 5000 beer lovers and has brewers attending from all over the country.
We love that GABF is a great social day out, a chance to catch up with friends and have a laugh, have a chat. With this in mind, whilst still encouraging tasting sizes, GABF is introducing 285ml size glasses and brewers will be serving cans if they stock them. More time to chat with your friends and less time in any queues. We will still have the option to buy tastes so you can try many of the different beers on offer.
There will be the additions of an abundance of games where you can challenge your friends or try your chances against the host with many prizes on offer…. good luck!
While the event is primarily a massive alfresco beer tasting and appreciation event, it’s also a live music feast running from 1pm to 8pm. A third stage is being added in 2019 and will feature nationally recognized performers including Great Gable, The Settlement, Mick Thomas and the Roving Commission, The Grand Wazoo, Skyscraper Stan with around 20+ live acts.
Other changes for the festival include a designated Piano Bar stage and return of the 18th Amendment Beer Cocktail section. A number of Reserved Table options have been added and keg rolling competition has been expanded to a crowd inclusive Wacky Race Meet, held out on the racing track, where festival goers can participate in a variety of themed races.
GABF’s not only a smorgasbord of 200+ Australian beers and ciders, it’s an experience designed to stimulate more than just taste buds. There will be a series of interactive seminars hosted by industry experts with beer lovers having the opportunity to meet and mingle with the brains behind the brands.
There will be constant live entertainment including beer cabaret and carnival DJs together with a selection of fine food trucks and heaps of BBQs with a focus on slow cooked meats.
GABF is designed to appeal to more than just beer lovers and is a colourful, social and family-friendly event.
