Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular is excited to announce the success of the inaugural GABS Cares initiative. Started in 2021, GABS Cares has been created by the GABS Craft Beer Festival team to support and give back to various beer industry initiatives and good community charitable causes within Australia and New Zealand.

“Caring for the community is a foundational aspect of the brewing Industry and giving back through GABS Cares is just a small way for us to contribute.” said Mike Bray, GABS MD. “GABS Cares is a natural extension of GABS, we passionately care about all craft breweries, craft consumers and those that are affiliated to our industry. We’re glad our common love for craft beer can help us provide some care for others in the broader community.”

GABS Cares launched a “Stack of Beer” campaign at the GABS 2021 Festivals where a whopping $10,000 was raised. This was shared by two nominated beneficiaries with The Pink Boots Society and ANZUP- Below the Belt campaign both receiving $5000 each.

The Pink Boots Society aims to assist, inspire and encourage women in the fermented and alcoholic beverage industry to advance their careers through education and mentorship. Founded in 2007, the organization works to shed a spotlight on and garner support for women in the craft beer industry.

“After missing a year of connecting with the industry and beer lovers, we were so excited to be back at GABS and tasting spectacular new beers. “ said Tiffany Waldron, President of Pink Boots Society Australia. “We can’t thank GABS, and of course those who supported this initiative by purchasing tickets, enough – proceeds from this fundraiser will be going straight towards scholarships for Pink Boots Society Australia members, supporting women+ in the fermented beverages industry through education”.

Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate (ANZUP) Cancer Trials Group is a charity that conducts clinical trials research to improve treatment of bladder, kidney, testicular, penile and prostate cancers otherwise known by ANZUP as “Below the Belt’ cancers. “ We were delighted to be involved in this year’s ‘spectapular’ events and have ANZUP’s below the belt ambassador and comedian Michael Shafar entertain the thousands of craft beer and good time lovers” said Lucy Byers, Marketing and Communications Manager at ANZUP. “Every dollar that was raised through the GABS CARES initiative for ANZUP and below the belt (prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and penile) cancers will go directly to clinical trials research to improve treatments and outcomes for patients.”

Bray said “We’re proud to be able to support two great programs like The Pink Boots Society and ANZUP, it has been one of the highlights of this year for us. GABS would like to thank all the incredible brewers and beer fans who donated to this very special cause. It would not have been possible without your generous contributions and we look forward to continuing the success of GABS Cares with you in the future.”

Seventy craft beer loving fans also received their share of the stack of beer. A full list of the beneficiaries of the “Stack of Beer” promotion can be found at www.gabsfestival.com
