Three environmental sustainability professionals are behind a new brewery slated to open in Brisbane’s south in the coming weeks.

Helios Brewing is the second company to open in Yeerongpilly this year, after May’s launch of Slipstream Brewing.

The founders of Helios are home brewers Scott Shomer and Tony Rutter and his partner Jayne Rutter.

Jayne Rutter told Brews News that Helios was named after the Greek god of the sun, representing the company’s goal of making a sustainable and eco-friendly brewery, starting with the installation of 59 solar panels that will help power its operations.

Helios’s beers are also based on gods and monsters from Greek Mythology, starting with the Poseidon Pale Ale. Also in the core range are the Athena Scotch Ale, Zeus Double IPA and Hades Bitter Chocolate Stout.

Charlie Hodgson, formerly head brewer at Mash Brewing in Western Australia, has made the move cross-country to join the team as head brewer.

“Charlie welcomed the change and has free range to create his own style and recipes,” Jayne Rutter said.

Located at 15 Palomar Rd, Yeerongpilly, Helios will have a small taproom on site and expects to be open by early December.

Brewery openings are presented bySpark Breweries and Distilleries, the finest in-venue and production brewing systems available, with local design and support.
