Victorian microbrewery Sow and Piglets has opened a production brewery in Cooriemungle, 12 months after opening its first facility in Port Campbell.

With a 10-hectolitre brewhouse and 12 x 1000 litre fermenters, the new brewery gives Sow and Piglets the capacity to wholesale its beers throughout the wider Great Ocean Road region.

Established on the former site of the Newton’s Ridge winery, the project has created four jobs and secured German head brewer and production manager Julian Widera’s permanent residency in Australia.

“We can’t wait for everyone to see this facility, but also to enjoy our food, music and hospitality. The venue is primarily for our community to enjoy, but also our visitors,” owner John Moloney said.

“Groups of up to 50 will be able to book all year round and qualified chef Paul Broderick will cater on site, making use of our outside barbecue and rotisserie.”

Sow and Piglets will soon install a new canning line that will enable it to package its beers on-site starting in May.

The name of the brewery ‘Sow and Piglets’ was inspired by the region’s history, being the original name for the Twelve Apostles until 1922.

Sow and Piglets Cooriemungle is open from 12pm to 5pm every day between October and May.

Brewery openings are presented bySpark Breweries and Distilleries, the finest in-venue and production brewing systems available, with local design and support.
